CORE ISSUES
NOW is a multi-issue, multi-strategy organization whose members work on a wide variety of social justice issues, but especially prioritize these six core issues, which have been pillars of NOW since its founding in 1966.
REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS
NOW fully supports accessible reproductive healthcare for all--safe and legal abortion, effective and affordable birth control and emergency contraception, and reproductive health education.
CONSTITUTIONAL EQUALITY
NOW supports adding the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, guaranteeing equality under the highest law. Without the ERA any progress can be lost at any time as advances can be (and have been) weakened or repealed by Congress.
ECONOMIC JUSTICE
NOW advocates for a wide range of economic justice issues impacting women's freedom and success--livable wages, paid sick leave, job discrimination, welfare reform, financial literacy and more.
END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
NOW seeks to address the broad and interconnected issue of violence against women--domestic violence, sexual assault and harassment, abortion clinic violence, and hate crimes motivated by gender, sexual orientation and race.
RACIAL JUSTICE
NOW is committed to ending racism and discrimination by working to identify and combat barriers to equality and justice imposed by structural racism, which inflicts a double burden of race and sex discrimination on women and girls of color.
LGBTQ+ RIGHTS
NOW fights discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identify in all areas--employment, housing, public accommodations, health services, child custody and military policies.
